01.10.07 KNAPP selects Davicon for distribution centre
KNAPP Logistik Automation, the Austrian-based Automation solutions provider appointed to supply the automated logistics system for John Lewis’ new 27 million Euro distribution centre in Milton Keynes, has selected Davicon as its principal mezzanine floor contractor. Davicon was awarded the job after a competitive tender, and was chosen for its track record and technical ability to provide the floor which will link into John Lewis’ order picking system once the distribution centre is operational in 2009.
Davicon will start on site mid 2007 to construct a 9,000 sq m floor over four different levels, finishing at the end of 2007. It will play a key part in KNAPP’s ability to provide a goods-to-man order picking system for the 55,000 sq m distribution centre. The mezzanine will support vertical and horizontal conveyors to handle the small product line items focused on by the centre.
KNAPP said of the contract, “The distribution centre will play a key role in supporting John Lewis expansion plans over the next ten years, maximising availability of stock for its stores and issuing on demand. More than two years of planning and detailed design work has already gone into this complex project, so it was essential our choice of supplier was the right one, which we believe we have in Davicon.”
The floor will be manufactured from Davicon’s dedicated mezzanine production facility which unlike the majority of mezzanine floor suppliers who do not manufacture, gives Davicon customers the assurance that both product quality and flexibility will be maintained at the highest levels.
